With the view to create a safer working environment, Qatar Steel celebrated occupational Safety and Health Day at its site in Mesaieed Industrial Area. A great number of employees and contractors attended the event. The program included presentations to generate awareness on security in general, heat stress, firefighting techniques, firefighting demonstration, road & traffic safety and etc. The event also included health tests to check up blood pressure, diabetes and others. Qatar Steel’s Safety Day aims at enhancing awareness on how to prevent the associated risks, and this year it focuses on ‘Falling from Height’ and to ensure that all employees must have access to training, handling equipment, and knowledge of preventative techniques before working at height. In recognition and appreciation of their efforts and dedication, Qatar Steel awarded 320 employees, who have completed 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 and 35 years of service.  The ceremony was held at QAPCO’s Club in Mesaieed Industrial City. In his speech on this occasion, Mr. Ali Bin Hassan Al-Muraikhi, Qatar Steel’s Managing Director and General Manager, expressed his hope that honoring long service employees would provide them with more encouragement to work hard and inspire them to remain productive, and set a good example for other colleagues to follow and excel. “Since its inception, Qatar Steel takes great interest in honoring its long service employees due to the importance we attach to the manpower, who are our genuine assets and the key for the company’s success and continual progress.”, Mr. Al-Muraikhi said. Qatar Steel, one of the leading steel producers in the Middle East and Arabian Gulf, achieved a record production of more than one million tons of rebar at RM II, the company’s ultra-modern rolling mill. Mr. Ali Bin Hassan Al-Muraikhi, Managing Director & General Manager of Qatar Steel, said: “This major achievement would not have been possible without the support and relentless efforts by our dedicated and motivated team to improve the company’s operational and maintenance efficiency.” RM II was commissioned in 2007 with a production capacity of 700,000 tons/annum of rebar with sizes ranging from 8 mm ф to 40 mm ф in diameter.
