Qatar Steel participated as associate sponsor in QATAR PROJECTS- MEED Conference, held from 10-11 March, 2015, at Grand Hyatt Doha. The theme of the conference was “providing clarity and assurance in Qatar’s projects market to progress investment opportunities. Qatar Projects- MEED 2015 brings together government representatives, key project owners, developers, consultants and financiers in the sector to address the evolving challenges of Qatar’s project delivery market and highlight future project opportunities, strategic priorities and master plans. Owing to its strategic significance, Qatar Steel took part in the International Building and Construction Show, known as “The Big 5 Saudi – 2015”, held in Jeddah’s Center for Forums and Events from 9 – 12th March 2015, with the participation of  more than 260 constructions exhibitors. “The Big 5 Saudi 2015” is one of the largest building and constructions exhibition in the Middle East, attracting leading local, regional and world companies, who are striving to get updated with the recent developments and solutions in building, constructions and contracting. In Algeria the foundation stone was laid for the construction of a steel complex in the industrial area in Bellara of Jijel province, 375 kilometers east of Algeria, the capital. The ceremony of laying the first stone of the project was held under the auspices of H.E. Sheikh Abdullah Bin Nasser Bin Khalifa Al-Thani, Prime Minister of Qatar, and his Algerian counterpart, HE Abdelmalek Sellal. High ranking officials from both sides attended the ceremony. The steel complex will be producing 2.0 Million tons of finished products of Re-bar and wire rod. Algeria (represented by Sider Co. & National Investment Fund) will hold 51% stake, while Qatar Steel International will hold the remaining 49% (represented by Qatar Steel 24,5%, and Qatar Mining 24,5%).
