Doha- Qatar The governments of Qatar and Algeria have decided to enter into a joint venture, for the construction of a steel complex in Algeria, at the industrial Area of Bellara, (Jijel). The planned steel complex will have a total production capacity of 4 million tons per year, while it is designed to produce 2 million tons of steel rebars in its first phase.  (1,5 MT of steel rebars & 500,000 Tons of Wiring rod,) to meet the requirements of the local market, on a priority basis. The joint venture was signed by the two sides on 7th Jan. 2013, while the shareholders’ agreement was signed on 24th March, 2013, for the construction and operation of the steel complex. Algeria (represented by Sider Co. & National Investment Fund) will hold 51% stake, while Qatar Steel International will hold the remaining 49% (represented by Qatar Steel 24,5%, and Qatar Mining 24,5%). In honor and recognition of its excellence in sustainability reporting, and in compliance with sustainable development, Qatar Steel has been recently awarded, among some leading industrial companies in Qatar, for excellence in sustainability reporting. The awarding ceremony was held under the auspices of HE Dr. Mohamed Bin Saleh Al-Sada, Minister of Energy and Industry, Chairman of QP and managing Director. Qatar Steel, among seven large-scale leading industrial companies in Qatar, was awarded “Runner-Up Certificate for its commitment towards sustainable development, and for the quality and credibility of its sustainable report. Qatar Steel’s 2012 sustainability report included a comprehensive demonstration of the company’s performance in environmental, social and economic domains. The report was produced as per the directives of the company’s Board in this respect, demonstrating the company’s commitment to the long-term growth and development, as well as various sustainability initiatives and projects undertaken by Qatar Steel. Within the framework of familiarizing Qatari students with the job disciplines and opportunities available at Qatar Steel, and in line with the cooperation existing with occupational and academic institutions, to attract Qatari cadets to join the company, and in compliance with its constant efforts to implement its corporate Quality Qatarization policy, Qatar Steel participated in the Career Fair, held on 10th March, 2013 at Al-Wakra Secondary Independent School. Promotional booklets and corporate publications were displayed at the stand. QS Officials met students and made presentations about the company’s internship programs that can be given after finishing their High school. They listened to students’ questions in this respect, and responded to all their queries.
