Within the framework of cooperation and collaboration, the National Human Rights Commission visited Qatar Steel and presented a lecture elaborating on the establishment of Human Rights Commission in Qatar and principles followed on the occasion of celebration of 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Mr. Mohammed bin Saleh Al Mahdi, Administration Division Manager at Qatar Steel expressed, ‘Qatar Steel is pro-active to human rights issues, and has shown strong interests in organizing this lecture at its plant site in conjunction with the celebrations of International Human Rights Day’. Qatar Steel Company, the first integrated steel plant in Middle East, hold its 34th forum of Quality Control Circle in Al Reem Club in Mesaieed. This is an important event on the company’s calendar, and was attended by MD & GM, Division Managers and Department Managers, other than the employees of the company. Commenting on the importance of the event, Eng. Mohammed Bin Nasser Al Hajri, Managing Director and General Manager of Qatar Steel, said: “This forum aims to encourage employees to innovate and contribute towards improving the working conditions, maintaining safety standards and attaining quality, while working to increase production. A group of thirty five industrial engineering students along with their academic staff from the College of Engineering of Qatar University visited Qatar Steel on November 5th to explore the steel making process and quality maintained through strict QA program. The aim for the visits was to show students what an actual steel plant looks like, and to encourage students to be the part of big steel workforce. By introducing students to steel making process, Qatar Steel’s learning and development provided a detailed induction program to the students on various aspects of operations. QU academic staff told, “The students were highly motivated and had realistic expectation to what they would encounter. This, together with the highly committed staff at Qatar Steel laid the basis for a good experience for the students.”
