Traceability is an important concern for structural steel companies. Our construction clients want to be able to track all components of their projects, including incorporation and use of steel. They want to know how our steel got to their sites and where it came from.
We make it easy to trace the Qatar Steel products by having proper traceability through heat number to each billet and rebar bundles we produce. With the heat number of a billet/rebar which is part of our material test certificate, entire history of the whole process can be traced in detail. The heat number is allocated during the production process of the EAF, which is further followed during rebar production & delivery to customers.
New format of heat number has been implemented from 1st July 2020 as mentioned below,
XSSSSSS
X – EF number (For EF3- X =3, EF4- X =4, EF5- X =5)
SSSSSS – Sequence number
The iron ore used for our production is sourced from reputable companies located in different parts of the world, all of which are ISO14001 Environmental Management System and ISO9001 Quality Management System certified. Companies with this certification tend to have clear environmental objectives and processes in place to achieve them.
In addition, by applying Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) to its products, Qatar Steel is fully aware of the environmental impacts of its products throughout all stages of their life cycle, from mining to manufacturing, transport, use and recycling or disposal. We aim to take full advantage of steel’s infinite recyclability by recycling steel scrap generated in Qatar, in order to further reduce the environmental impacts of Our Main Products.
LCA provides us with the necessary data to benchmark the environmental performance of Our Main Products, and acts as structural support for our environmental decision-making. We believe that understanding and improving the lifecycle performance of Our Main Products is a crucial way in which we can contribute to a more sustainable economy.
Qatar Steel conducted a lifecycle assessment of its products in accordance with EN 15804:2012+A1:2013. This environmental product declaration for Qatar Steel was conducted by a recognised international body. This study will help Qatar Steel to benchmark the environmental impact of its products with other international steel companies.
