With reference to the Steel demand in the local and GCC market, and to cope with the 2030 vision of State of Qatar, a new project is initiated in order to increase the overall production of Qatar Steel. The Plant will be located adjacent to the existing plants in Mesaieed, and is expected to be commissioned by the first quarter of 2013.. On 8th of March 2011 Mr. Ali Bin Hassan Al Muraiki Director and General Manager of Qatar Steel and Mr. Norbert Petermaier, Senior vice president of Siemens VAI signed a contract for  1.1 million tons/ year Steel Making Plant. The plant will have Siemens VAI’s Ultra High Power 110 Tons Electric Arc Furnace, 110 T Ladle Furnace and 6 strand High Speed Billet Caster coupled with Sophisticated Fume Extraction System for zero emission. In connection with the forthcoming mega event on the 40th anniversary of excellence and achievements in economic development of the State of Qatar, Qatar Steel has joined hands with the organizer QCCI as the diamond sponsor. During an official ceremony held today at QCCI Majlis, Qatar Steel’s Marketing Manager, Mr. Mohammed Al Saadi signed the contract with QCCI contributing Qr.250,000 towards sponsorship. The event is scheduled to be held on September 19, 2011 at Sheraton Doha and QCCI will host a high profile gala dinner in the evening followed by the launching of a commemorative book depicting the rich heritage of Qatar. Qatar Steel’s commitment to Qatariztion and Qatari staff qualification stems from a firm conviction of its importance and role in sustainable development. As part of this commitment, Qatar strives to develop the skills of young Qataris joining the Company and provide them with English courses under an agreement with the University of Cambridge through a special program for the new Qatari staff, under training, in Qatar Steel. According to the plan, the young Qatari staff received graduation certificates at the end of the course for having passed the course successfully. During this course, the graduates acquired skills in speaking, writing, reading and listening.
