In line with its high concern to environment, and as part of its environmental commitment, Qatar Steel participated in QP Annual Environment Fair, held under the patronage of HE Dr. Mohamed bin Saleh al-Sada, Minister of Energy & Industry and Managing Director of Qatar Petrouleum, from 23-26 April, 2014 at Qatar National Conventions Centre (QNCC).
A large number of QP subsidiaries and joint ventures, industry stakeholders and government companies and organizations took part in this year’s environment fair. The theme was about the Use of Water in Oil and Gas Industry. The fair’s slogan was “Allah created from water every living thing”.
The four day event was a good opportunity for the participants to showcase their environmental initiatives, programs and activities. A wide range of entertaining and educational activities for visitors and students were featured, such as plays and competitions to educate the public and children about the rules and regulations applied to preserve our environment, protect our natural resources and to enhance the community’s awareness about environment.
Concurrently with the environment fair, technical workshops were made, revolving around water usage and maintaining water resources, and presentations about the theme of the event were given by some companies. Qatar Steel’s presentation was entitled “Qatar Steel’s Initiatives towards Water Conservation”.
Mr. Ali Bin Hassan Al-Muraikhi, Managing Director and General Manager of Qatar Steel expressed his delight to take part in QP Environment Fair every year. “Our participation in the environment fair embodies our environmental commitment and emphasizes on our social responsibility towards community. As a steel leading producer, it is our responsibility to preserve the environment and to establish the concept of environmental sustainability by all means.
Mr. Al-Muraikhi added that Qatar Steel is doing its utmost to turn all its industrial processes to be ecofriendly, as per the highest environmental standards. Its manufacturing policy is based on minimizing the overall environmental impacts in general, and air emissions in particular. We shall also continue to support and contribute towards the Environmental Development, which one of the basic pillars of Qatar National Vision 2030.
Qatar Steel’s booth attracted a great number of visitors, including students from local schools. Officials from HSE Dept. welcomed the visitors and briefed them about the company’s manufacturing activities, plans and sustainable initiatives relating to different vital environmental issues and the state-of-the-art technology used. The initiatives include maintaining water resources, reducing gas emissions, recycling, waste management and others. Awareness guidelines and information were given to the public about the environment and how to protect it. A documentary film about Qatar Steel was shown, highlighting the company’s ecofriendly manufacturing processes.
